Desert View Hospital gets new CAT Scan machine
Desert View Hospital recently installed a new 128-slice CT Scanner, which represents a notable upgrade from its previous 16-slice machine, the facility announced.
The new scanner is a SOMATOM Perspective manufactured by Siemens Medical Solutions is beneficial to patients in a variety of ways.
It allows a wider range of testing to be performed and is safer than the old 16-slice machine,as it reduces the amount of radiation a patient receives during each test by up to 60 percent.
In addition, testing is also quicker and image quality is increased, reducing the need for rescans. The new machine features a wider table which is more accommodating to all body types, and has a cardiac testing package.
The addition of the machine is the latest upgrade for the hospital over the past year, with most changes being geared toward increasing service.
"In our continued efforts to deliver the best patient care, our new scanner incorporates dose-
reduction technologies along with patient-centric features that streamline the scan making for a comfortable and relaxed patient experience," said Desert View Hospital Imaging Director Angela Losonsky.
The scanner is a big addition to the local community, as it will rival any similar service over the hump.
"There are only a few scanners of this magnitude in the entire Las Vegas Valley. We are very fortunate to have the only 128-slice CT in Pahrump," Losonsky said. "We are delivering best in class imaging while reducing the radiation dose for patients."
Although Desert View would not disclose the price of the new CT Scan unit, they generally run between $1 million and $2 million in price and around $140,000 in service costs each year, according to the manufacturer.
