School district 16 teachers short

The Nye County School District is short a number of teaching positions and they are set to actively recruit interested individuals to fill those spots.

There are currently 16 teacher vacancies in the school district and Superintendent Dale Norton is ready to advertise to draw attention to those empty positions.

"One thing I'm really excited about is I have obtained one of the large billboards outside of town that's blank. It's a 14-feet-high and 48-feet-across billboard," Norton said. "We are struggling with hiring and decided to do something about it."

The billboard will go up near the racetrack on the left-hand side of the road according to Norton.

The art that will be used for the sign is also being considered to be placed on bumper stickers on two the district's vehicles, and one vehicle may even be wrapped in the art, making it a mobile billboard for the school district.

"We're trying to find people," he said. There is no cost for the billboard at this time. There is no cost for the production of this stuff… it's been donated. I pulled in my cards. We have some contributors that are very helpful to us and very supportive of us as a district and they see the need also."

Norton also noted that a modified sticker of the logo will be made for school buses in the district as well.

"I'm excited about this, my staff has worked hard on this, Sherry Allison actually designed this," he said. Our staff put this together and it's soon-to-be displayed."

In addition to the large-scale advertising plan, the district is also hoping Nye County residents will refer anyone they know with the right educational background to apply for one of the many open positions.

"If you know anyone with a Bachelor's Degree who may be interested in teaching, please have them contact Human Resources at 775-727-7743 for information on how to apply for an Alternate Route to Licensure, then apply to be a NCSD teacher in our district," Norton said "We are also hiring substitute staff to fill numerous and various positions within Nye County School District."
