Fatal residential fire Jan. 1 being investigated by state fire officials

The State Fire Marshal is investigating a residential fire on New Year’s day that left one person dead.

A report of a 9:45 p.m. fire on Jan. 1 in the 1700 block of West Windsong Lane was responded to by Nye County Sheriff’s Office and Pahrump Valley Fire and Rescue

The crews worked to extinguish the fully engulfed home. Upon entry to the home, fireman discovered a deceased person.

Nye County Animal Control assisted by taking several live pets into protective custody, according to police.

The State Fire Marshall's Office was notified and an investigation into the source and cause of the fire is underway.

The identification of the deceased person is being withheld pending notification of family.
