Two-vehicle crash sends victims to hospital

One adult and two young children were transported to Desert View Hospital following a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 160 and Bell Vista Avenue just before 10 a.m. on Thursday.

Upon arrival, fire crews found one vehicle off the highway, several yards into the desert.

Fire Chief Scott Lewis said crews were on scene shortly after the collision.

"Medic 5 was here in less than 30 seconds," he said. "Their assessment revealed that there were three patients in one of the vehicles, while two occupants of the other vehicle averted injuries."

Nye County Sheriff's Auxiliary crews diverted traffic in both directions as emergency crews tended to the injured.

Nevada Highway Patrol Sgt. Carlos Rivera said one of the drivers failed to yield to oncoming traffic.

"We had a two-vehicle accident involving a white Dodge pickup truck and a grey-colored four-door Hyundai," he said. "Based on talking to the drivers of both vehicles, it appears that the Hyundai was attempting to make a left turn onto Bell Vista from 160. The white pickup truck was traveling southbound approaching the intersection and unfortunately the vehicles collided. There were three people transported. Once we complete our investigation we will be taking our proper enforcement action on this."
