Woman jailed for domestic battery on child

Melissa Hettinger was arrested on April 16 and charged with child abuse or neglect and domestic battery after deputies with the Nye County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a report of a domestic battery at a residence on Betty Avenue.

Deputies spoke with Hettinger’s spouse and a juvenile who reportedly said that Hettinger was intoxicated and angry about the events of the day and became so angry that she knocked down a shelf with perfume bottles on it. When the victim attempted to pick up one of the bottles, Hettinger allegedly chased him around the home and threatened him with the lid belonging to a cookie jar.

Deputies reportedly learned that the spouse was able to get the lid away from Hettinger. The spouse said that the minor child laid down on a bed in an attempt to avoid confrontation with his mother and she allegedly climbed on top of him and slapped him in the face and scratched his face while trying to get the perfume bottle away from him.

Hettinger was subsequently arrested and transported to the Nye County Detention Center and booked. She was held on $8,000 bond.

Man jailed for burglary after bicycle chase

Anthony Busse was jailed on April 18 and charged with burglary after deputies were dispatched to a report of a burglary at a residence on Dandelion Street.

When deputies spoke to the victim she reportedly said that earlier she left her residence to visit with her mother, who lives on the same property and when she returned about an hour later she found a bag and a pair of shoes belonging to Busse as well as a key that was missing from her key ring.

Deputies learned that there was a previous call to the residence the same day at approximately 1 a.m. for a call of Busse not wanting to leave the home. Upon arrival, deputies learned that Busse had left and there was no contact made at that time.

After taking a report and leaving, deputies were in the area of Highway 372 and Linda Street when they observed a male on a bicycle that looked like Busse. Deputies noted in the arrest report that the bike was left at the victim’s home hours earlier.

As deputies drove towards Busse’s direction, he reportedly rode away and would not stop or comply with commands.

After deputies initiated lights and sirens and engaged in a pursuit, Busse finally stopped.

Busse was subsequently arrested and transported to the jail and booked, and held on $5,000 bond.
