Man arrested on felony lewdness charges

Police took one man into custody last week after they received a report that he had allegedly molested two girls under the age of 14 sometime between 2010 and 2011.

Ronald Earl Wescoatt, 29, was arrested on two felony counts of lewdness with a child under 14 after the mother of one of the victims reportedly told a Nye County Sheriff’s deputy about the alleged abuse while he was investigating an unrelated call for service.

According to a declaration of arrest in the case, the deputy was investigating a report of a theft when the mother disclosed that Wescoatt had allegedly molested her now 14-year-old daughter two to three years ago.

Following the report, an NCSO detective arranged for the victim to undergo a forensic interview at the Southern Nye County Child Advocacy Center to talk about the alleged abuse.

During that interview, the victim stated approximately two to three years ago Wescoatt had slipped his hand under her clothing and touched her bottom while she was sleeping. She added that her friend, who was also sleeping in the same room that night, may have been a witness to the incident.

Police then interviewed the girl’s 14-year-old friend about the night in question. She allegedly told police her friend had told her about what Wescoatt had done, adding that he had also done the same thing to her just a few days prior to allegedly touching her friend.

The girl reportedly explained she was spending the night with the other victim when she awoke to Wescoatt with his hand in her pants.

She told police she heard another male voice through a window tell Wescoatt it was time to leave for work and that he allegedly replied “just a minute,” which, according to police, means Wescoatt was awake and aware of his actions at the time of the incident.

Wescoatt was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Nye County Detention Center to be booked into custody. He has since posted bail and been released from custody.
