After unanimously recalling all seven members of the Nye County Water District Governing Board this month, the county has found itself in something of a catch-22 situation, as the act establishing the water board requires the county to appoint members to that board.

Officials with Candela Renewables, the company proposing the Rough Hat Nye County Solar Project, were in the Pahrump Valley this week for a presentation before the Pahrump Public Lands Advisory Committee and this meeting drew an even larger crowd than the last in which this project was discussed, with upward of 100 residents filling the Nye County commission chambers to make their opposition to the project clear.
The Thanksgiving holiday is just around the corner and once again, the Pahrump Holiday Task Force is immersed in preparations to host its annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner, which is set take place as an in-person, sit-down dinner with buffet-style service for the first time since 2019.
With less than a week until Veterans Day, Saturday, Nov. 6 seemed to be the perfect date for the Nye County Valor Quilters to host a Quilts of Valor presentation in honor of nearly two dozen former military service members who call the Pahrump Valley home.

Thursday, Nov. 11 marked Veterans Day in America and right here in the Pahrump Valley, residents from all around the town were able to take part in the occasion at two ceremonies held in honor of the federal holiday.
In less than four weeks’ time, Nye County will be holding an auction to sell off the old Pahrump Medical Center and those interested in purchasing the facility have two options available for bidding, including submitting a “sealed” bid prior to the sale or taking part in the live auction process itself the day of.
When Carmen Murzyn started her journey with Ms. Senior Golden Years USA, she had no way of knowing that the decision to become a contestant in the 2019 pageant would eventually result in her becoming the leader of an entirely different organization but now, two years later, she is happily entrenched as the president of the Nye County Chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace.
Animal welfare is a subject that is very dear in the hearts of many Pahrump Valley residents and locally, Desert Haven Animal Shelter is dedicated to providing services for the area’s many stray and abandoned pets, with the ultimate goal of giving them the happy life they deserve by reuniting them with the families or placing them in loving, “furever” homes. This task does not come cheaply, however, and funding for the nonprofit is a key part of its mission to save and protect animals.
In the driest state in the nation, “Whiskey is for drinking, water is for fighting,” isn’t just a catchy saying, it’s reality.
Next Thursday is Veterans Day and all across the United States, current and former military service members, their families, friends and supporters will gather to commemorate the occasion, including right here in Pahrump, where there will be two formal ceremonies held.
