14-year-old female dies in car crash in Beatty

A 14-year-old female is dead and two other teenagers injured after a one-vehicle crash over the weekend in Beatty.

According to the Nye County Sheriff's Office, a call about a rollover accident involving a single vehicle on Indian Springs Road in Beatty came in at around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday night. The police report states that the road is a gravel road located off North Road.

Upon arrival to the scene, sheriff's deputies found that a cream-colored Jeep Cherokee was traveling at a high rate of speed when it lost control, crossing from the northbound lane into the southbound lane, colliding with the culvert that runs along the northbound lane.

The vehicle rolled an unknown number of times, during which the 14-year-old female passenger, identified as Tyra Welch Grover by various Facebook posts, was ejected out of the sunroof. The victim was not believed to have been wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. Grover was a freshman at Beatty High, according to social media.

The 15-year-old female driver and a 15-year-old male passenger were transported to UMC in Las Vegas by ground to treat injuries they sustained during the crash. The pair of 15 year olds were believed to have been wearing seatbelts, according to the initial investigation.

Nevada Highway Patrol's Fatal Team assisted in the investigation, utilizing their expertise in the field along with additional equipment. Sheriff's investigators also showed up to aid the investigation into the deceased teenage victim and the crash.

Parents of the Welch victim were notified by the sheriff's office the night of the crash.

The victim's mother, Jordanna Toviah Grover, took to her Facebook page to thank the first responders and give an update on the two injured teens.

"To the Beatty N.C.S.O., Beatty Ambulance crew, Beatty Fire Department, and any and all people who helped with Saturday's accident, thank you for everything you did and those two people who will eventually be OK.
