Deadline to apply for Brownfield’s classes Oct. 18

NyE Communities Coalition graduated its first group of students who took advantage of the recent job skills classes offered through an almost $200,000 Brownfields grant. The classes began in August and of the 28 people who qualified to enroll in the classes, 22 graduated with eight either state or federal certifications, which will aid them when seeking employment.

Man arrested after baby suffers third-degree burns

One man is in custody after police say he failed to call 911 for more than eight hours after his girlfriend’s four-month-old child suffered possible third degree burns when he left the baby unattended near a hot iron.

No commercial kitchen for Beatty community center

It appears that the Beatty Community Center will not be getting large commercial-grade kitchen. The town advisory board had considered the idea as an option, but decided against it in a workshop held before their Sept. 30 meeting.

New law allows motorcyclists to turn left on red

A new law that recently went into effect will now allow motorcyclists, bicyclists, trimobile and scooter riders to proceed through a red light if they’ve been sitting at an intersection for some time without a green light allowing them to continue traveling through the area.
