When it comes to firearms, longtime Pahrump resident Debra Strickland doesn’t just talk the talk, she can also walk the walk.

The Pahrump Public Lands Advisory Committee had what may very well have been the biggest turnout the advisory body has ever seen before during its Tuesday, Oct. 12 meeting.

Fall is in the air and for the town of Pahrump, that means it’s almost time for Pumpkin Days.

U.S. Senate candidate Adam Laxalt made a stop in the valley last week, spending some time at local eatery Mom’s Diner to speak with area residents as he ramps up his campaign for the 2022 election.

Pahrump resident Shauna “Shay” Dragna and her three youngsters, Cayleigh, Caden and Conner, have spent the last month focusing on their very first public philanthropy project and though they entered into the endeavor without any previous experience and absolutely no idea how it might turn out, the results of their efforts are bearing some very positive fruit.

Several streets in the Pahrump Valley will be seeing faster traffic following approval by the Nye County Commission of speed limit increases effecting roadways located in the center of town.

The 2021 Legislative Session saw the passage of a multitude of bills this year, with literally hundreds making their way through the legislative process to become Nevada law and residents all across the state may be asking themselves just what those many, many bills mean to them and their daily lives.

The Nye County District Attorney’s Office undertakes some of the most important work in the community, prosecuting crimes perpetrated by and on the residents of Nye County. It is a highly complex task and one that is key in protecting the people of the county but it is also one that can lead to plenty of questions by the public, who often wish to know where the DA’s office is at with certain cases, particularly those of a very high-profile nature.

The town of Pahrump is bordered by thousands of acres of land managed by the Bureau of Land Management and these lands have become the target of a variety of solar energy projects in recent years, with yet another slated for nearly 3,400 acres near the southern border of the town, dubbed the Rough Hat Nye County Solar Project.

The Pahrump Remote Area Medical Clinic took place for the sixth consecutive year this past weekend and throughout the two-day event, hundreds of residents of the valley and surrounding areas were given the chance to have their lives bettered with free medical services, including general health exams, vision screenings and prescription eyeglasses and, one of the most consistently popular features of these annual clinics, dental care such as cleanings, fillings and extractions.

The 2020 census was conducted last year and after many long months of awaiting the results, the new population figures for states, counties, cities and towns all around the United State have now been officially released. According to the data from the decennial census, Nye County and Pahrump have both seen an upswing in population over the past 10 years while several other communities in the county have experienced population declines.

Nye County is entering the redistricting process that comes as a result of the conclusion of the 2020 Census, with a total of seven members appointed to the newly formed Nye County Redistricting Advisory Committee, which will hold its first public meeting next week.

With billions of dollars in federal COVID-19 recovery aid making its way into the state’s coffers, Nevada State Treasurer Zach Conine’s office and the office of the Nevada governor have teamed up to host the Nevada Recovers Listening Tour, an initiative aimed at gathering public input on how the state can best put those federal dollars to use.

The team at the Pahrump Valley Times and its sister publication, the Tonopah Times-Bonanza &Goldfield News claimed top honors in several categories at the Nevada Press Association Awards this year, including first place for Investigative Story, Breaking News and Community Service. In addition, the Pahrump Valley Times won first place for General Online Excellence and both publications netted awards for advertising, as well as overall design.

Nye County sheriff’s candidate Diane Sauter hosted a campaign fundraiser this past weekend, inviting members of the public to head on down to the Wine Ridge Clubhouse to meet her in person and spend an evening enjoying good food and good company. After the event came to a close, Sauter said she was quite pleased with the results of the shindig, which provided her with the opportunity to not only meet some locals but to also dispel some rumors that have been making their way around the community about her.
