On Oct. 24, this newspaper ran an article that quoted political experts who expected the deceased Dennis Hof to win the District 36 Nevada Assembly election. The headline on that story was, “Nevada experts: Voters expected to ‘elect a dead man’.”
President Donald Trump’s political approach is to never admit a mistake or setback. So, he proclaimed the midterm election result a “tremendous success.” In truth, the outcome was an overall GOP defeat and a devastating one in Nevada.
Nevada is now solidly a blue state.
Third-parties are so counterproductive that the top priority for Republican donors should be funding a Green Party in Nevada. Green Party candidates would likely draw at least 2 percent from Democrat candidates. That’s a winning margin in close races, and the impacts can be felt all the way down the ballot.
In 1992, Democratic presidential candidate Bill Clinton ran on a platform of “change.” He used the word a lot. His first campaign slogan was “for people for change.” “Change” here, “change” there, “change” everywhere and all the time.
In August, I wrote about claims of polling place voter fraud and how rare such incidents are (“Looking into that old voter fraud claim,” PVT, Aug. 15). Not everyone agrees, but an incident brought to my attention by our editor provides more evidence.
