Several members of the community met at the Black Cow’s open-mic session on Wednesday evening, followed by a candlelight vigil at the corner of Highway 160 and Basin Avenue in the Petrack Park parking lot. Hymns and songs of freedom were sung by the group to mark Juneteenth in Pahrump for the fourth year since President Joe Biden signed the nation’s newest holiday into law in 2021.

More than 40 friends and family celebrated Emil Janssen’s 95th birthday on Saturday, June 8 at the Pahrump Senior Center. The co-founder of Pahrump Family Mortuary will serve as grand marshal for this year’s Fourth of July parade in Pahrump, and says the secret to his longevity is simple.
The event raised about $2,800 for local causes.

The time of hunting and fishing conventions has come to an end and the hunting guides-outfitters have returned home to prepare for another season. I’m left with my head full of new stories and my sides still aching from laughing at the crazy tales and humorous, if sometimes dangerous, adventures we’ve shared at vendor booths, in the hallways, hotel rooms and yes, while sipping a beverage in the local “watering holes.”

BEATTY — Shadows. In 2006 Eames Demetrios designated Rhyolite as the capital of the District of Shadows in his fantasy alternate universe. This bit of information can be found on the plaque he placed at Goldwell Open Air Museum next to the Nevada ghost town.
The ladies of the valley were able to “fall into fashion” at the Republican Women of the Pahrump Valley’s Fall Fashion Show on Oct. 14 at the Artesia Clubhouse. It’s a fundraiser for the group’s scholarship program.
It’s been many years since the residents of Pahrump have had a public festival at Petrack Park for the 4th of July but thanks to Kelli Sater, owner of The Lady – World Famous Watering Hole, that streak ended this year with the Redneck Pool and BBQ.

The afternoon was a celebration of all things chic. The stylish affair drew a sold-out crowd to the Sanders Family Winery and helped raised thousands of dollars to support Soroptimist International of the Pahrump Valley.
The Pahrump Valley Garden Club hosted its 2023 Landscape Tour on Saturday with a strong turnout of approximately 150 patrons. It was declared to be one of the best tours in the club’s history.
J.G. Johnson Elementary hosted its annual fourth-grade cotillion on Saturday. It wasn’t exactly a ball to “present” affluent young debutantes to society. Rather it was the culmination of months of commitment and sacrifice by 29 students, their parents and devoted volunteers to put the kids on a lifelong path to success.
