Truck driver misjudges height of VEA drive-thru payment lane

A commercial vehicle attempting to enter the drive-thru payment area of Valley Electric Association struck the top of the clearance guard causing significant damage to both. The maximum clearance of the drive-thru area was labeled as nine feet. The vehicle, however, was slightly taller. The collision occurred just after 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 19. No injuries were reported.

The Nevada Department of Transportation plans to spend $6.8 million on road projects around Nye County for this fiscal year. That does not include the cost of finishing the two roundabout projects on Highway 372, and the widening of Highway 160, both of which were on last year’s budget.

Four people were transported to Desert View Hospital following a two-vehicle head-on collision on Basin Avenue just west of Union Pacific Street on Thursday afternoon.

Three-vehicle collision on Homestead sends two to hospital

At least two people were transported to Desert View Hospital following a three-vehicle collision on Homestead Road west of Gamebird Road just before 8 a.m., on Tuesday. Nye County Sheriff’s deputies halted traffic in both directions on Homestead Road while crews worked to clear the scene. Heavy fog and slick road conditions contributed to the collision. The injured parties are expected to recover from their injuries.
