‘Here we go’: Tonopah coach gets ready for next year

TONOPAH — A retired Nye County Sheriff’s sergeant who traveled the nation has parked his RV in Tonopah once again to coach the Muckers baseball team.

The time of hunting and fishing conventions has come to an end and the hunting guides-outfitters have returned home to prepare for another season. I’m left with my head full of new stories and my sides still aching from laughing at the crazy tales and humorous, if sometimes dangerous, adventures we’ve shared at vendor booths, in the hallways, hotel rooms and yes, while sipping a beverage in the local “watering holes.”

Sheriff’s Office shines in Special Olympics Torch Run

The third annual Nye County Law Enforcement Torch Run was held on Saturday and was smooth sailing due to the hard work of the Nye County Sheriff’s Office. Each year the Special Olympics torch makes its way from Southern Nevada up to Reno where the summer games are held for the Special Olympics on June 3.

Golf: The five toughest holes at Mountain Falls

The Nevada high school state championship will be held this year at Mountain Falls Golf Course, a par 72, 18-hole course. Randy Mudge is the new golf professional and he talked to the PVT about what he thinks are the five toughest holes that the golfers will face at Mountain Falls.

Pahrump Valley sends four to state meet

The Pahrump Valley High track team will be sending four athletes to the state meet this week, which starts on Friday and ends on Saturday in Reno at Bishop Manogue High School.

Dates and times for G.R.E.A.T. games announced

The G.R.E.A.T. Games have entertained youth in Nye County for the past 19 years. G.R.E.A.T. stands for Gang Resistance Education and Training.

Lady Hornets are regional champions for the sixth year

The Lady Hornets did it again. They won the regional championship for the sixth season in a row. The team was first out of five teams. Beatty won with 179 points, Tonopah was second (131), Round Mountain third (40), Pahranagat Valley was fourth (36) and Indian Springs fifth (20).

Boys and girls track relying on distance running for points

The Pahrump Valley boys track team is tearing things up in long-distance running. The Trojans went to Del Sol in Las Vegas on Tuesday to compete against four Division I-A teams. Pahrump finished second (106), Del Sol was first (117.5), Chaparral was third (95) and Spring Valley was fourth (55.5).
