Two people are dead following an early morning two-vehicle collision Aug. 26 on U.S. Highway 95 just north of Beatty.

It has taken nearly nine months to formalize the changes but the speed limit increases approved late last year for the three roadways surrounding Ian Deutch Memorial Park have finally became official, effective as of yesterday, Thursday, Sept 3.

A proposal that at one point appeared to be a shoo-in, the plan put forward by Nye County for utilizing a promised $5 million donation toward a community center has now officially been rejected by Valley Electric Association.

Earlier this summer, notice was received that more than $8 million in federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act funding had been allocated for use and distribution by Nye County and, following the development of its CARES Act funding policy, the county is ready to launch its first grant program to put those dollars to work.
