Benefit dinner for Harvey Gonzales a big hit

TONOPAH — The Tonopah Convention Center was filled to capacity on Saturday night as close to 500 people had a steak dinner in support of Harvey Gonzalez and his family. Gonzalez was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer at the end of 2013. He has since had an operation to remove the cancer and plans on starting chemotherapy soon.

9-year drought ends with Tonopah winning 48-46

ALAMO — It was an epic night for the Tonopah Mucker basketball team. The team achieved their biggest win of the season against Pahranagat Valley High School Panthers by beating them for the first time in 9 years 48-46. The game was played away on Alamo’s court last Friday.

Beatty defeats Sandy Valley

The Lady Hornets basketball team this year was not expected to do much in this building year and yet they keep winning. They toppled the Sandy Valley Sidewinders 37-15 to improve to 3-1 in league and second place behind the Pahranagat Valley Panthers and tied with the Tonopah Muckers.

Trojans win in double overtime

The Trojans men’s basketball fought hard for their first league win in double overtime on Tuesday night. The game was a real roller coaster ride as the team fought for the lead, got it, lost it, tied it and finally won it in the second overtime period 67-64.

Pahrump has its own biggest losers

Fifteen of the town’s biggest losers have been chosen to compete for some cash, and no it’s not all the town’s politicians. The “Biggest Loser Competition” has begun, a spin-off of the TV version has been launched in town by Custom Health and Fitness Gym and CrossFit 160.

Trojans wrestlers down 6 of 7 opponents

The Mohave Thunderbird Invitational in Bullhead City, Ariz. was a real grind for the Trojans wrestling program. The competition started last Friday and ended on Saturday and the team wrestled four times on Friday and three times on Saturday.

This is why when this Texas native says he is the starting point guard for the Trojans basketball team it surprises people.

Hornets split against Word and Tonopah

Beatty and Tonopah are always fun to watch and both teams are fierce rivals. Going into the game the Hornets just beat up World of Life on Friday. Word had battled Pahranagat Valley and beat them 42-32 the week before, but Word lost to the Hornets on Friday 61-56 in a solid performance by the Hornets.

Lady Hornets fall on stinger

The Lady Muckers and the Lady Hornets always put on a great show every time they meet and last Saturday’s game was no different.
