Pahrump takes home two prizes in mucking contest in Tonopah

One of the ways the town celebrated its heritage during Jim Butler Days was by mucking things up during the 2014 Nevada State Mining Championships.

Sophomore Meghan McDermott is in no hurry to run for the gold just yet. She is being patient and has her mind on putting in the time to beat the times set by last year’s queen of the hurdles of Pahrump Valley High School, Naomi Argabright.

Track: Shot putter Cassie Clark propels Trojans to win

The Trojans went up against a new and improved Clark Chargers. Clark in the past has been known for its consistently good long distance runners, but in the long run the Chargers were beaten by the depth of the Pahrump Trojans on both sides of the house.

Muckers baseball puts on hitting clinic for Beatty

The Tonopah baseball team took no pity on the Hornets when they visited Beatty last Friday. The Muckers beat them by scores of 20-0 in the first game and in the nightcap 12-1. With these two victories, they are 4-0-0 in league.

Golf continues to improve one stroke at a time

The Trojans golf team continues to improve with each match and have played two matches in the past week with good results.

Toomer called on to rebuild b-ball team

The Trojans men’s hoopsters are back in full force with a new team and a new head coach. Trojans Coach John Toomer is tired of waiting and says his “team is ready to start playing games.”

Speedway runs last race of the season

After being rained out on Nov. 23, the last race of the Pahrump Valley Speedway’s season on Nov. 30 was a spectacle of new and experienced drivers with some out there to get experience, and some veterans there to just enjoy the last local dirt race of the year.

Aimee Senior returns as head coach

Aimee Senior returns to lead the Beatty Hornets women’s basketball team one more year. This year the veteran coach comes out of retirement and is in her 13th year. She said after last year’s season she would come back to help out the team if they couldn’t find a replacement for Steve Sullivan who is sitting this year out.

Football running back faces life and wins

Senior Matt Misener is a running back for the Tonopah Muckers. Misener’s running game has been responsible for breaking a few games wide open. He is 5 feet 9 inches tall and 165 pounds, and runs the 40-yard dash in 4.5 seconds. He is quick and lethal, but most importantly he has heart.

Tonopah routs Round Mountain

The Tonopah Muckers football team won Friday’s away conference game against Round Mountain by a score of 58-26. With this win, Tonopah improves to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in league. The offense is averaging 345.6 yards rushing per game, 117 yards passing per game and has a total of 26 TDs.
