The first week of the prep football season was considered a success. But eight games were canceled by causes related to the COVID pandemic, player eligibility and wildfires.

The PVTBC will hold a Certified Snakebite/10 Pin/No Tap Singles Turkey Shoot Tournament, with handicap, on Nov. 22 at the Pahrump Nugget. This tournament will be sponsored by Nevada Treasure RV Resort.
Basketball teams need height and a little bit of speed. This year the Lady Trojans might have a bit of both.
Who is Kyle Heckman? Ask around the track and really nobody knows. Even the owner of the track, Chad Broadhead had to be reminded who he was. Heckman was the man who returned to the Pahrump Valley Speedway to win another $1,500 purse at the second annual After the Duel last Saturday. Heckman also won the Sam Stringer Memorial this year in July.
The Badwater race returns to Death Valley National Park in 2015, but with restrictions. The biggest change will be when the race will be allowed to be held. It will no longer be during the heat of the day, but at night.
The Beatty Volleyball team ended its Cinderella season at Wooster High School in Reno last Saturday with a loss to Smith Valley. The Hornets (11-5 overall) lost to the Bulldogs (29-7) in three games, 25-15, 25-16 and 25-11.
The Rosemary Clarke Middle School football team, the Sharks, plays an integral role in shaping the high school football team. Last year was the year the team started running the high school offense.

During the year the Pahrump Valley Times celebrates the seniors who are still getting out and being active. Betty Heil is one of those athletes who is 85 and still loves to compete.
Las Vegas has NASCAR and Pahrump has the “Day After the Duel.” This weekend is a big race weekend at the Pahrump Valley Speedway with two big events scheduled.
The Hornets went up against a strong defensive team last Friday at Spring Mountain and lost 74-22. Luis Flores was sacked seven times and couldn’t score in the second half.
Beatty volleyball is going to state. The Hornets are on their way to Reno this Friday to play in their first state tourney since 1998. The last time Beatty won state was in 1993.
Freshman Bryce Odegard raced with the best on Saturday and finished fourth. He was the only member to go to state this year from the boys and girls cross-country team.
Soccer is a game of intense coordination and requires years to perfect good technical skills to control the ball. Not too many kids master the skills necessary to play at the high school level. One family, the DiBlasi family, has taken the game of soccer to the next level.
Last Tuesday, Beatty destroyed the Lady Muckers dreams’ of reaching the State Championship this year. Tonopah lost in four, 25-7,25-17,17-25, and 25-15 against the Hornets in a fierce battle in which both teams played their hearts out on the court.
