There is a sweeping change at the dirt tracks in California and it has made its way to the Pahrump Valley Speedway. This year there has been a big switch from International Motor Contest Association West Coast Super Stocks to the IMCA Modifieds and there may be a possibility the IMCA WCSS might be disbanded next season.
The Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association met on June 18 for their summer meeting. Of note, the association decided on a compressed spring schedule for next year. The board met and approved a new spring schedule to take the state championships out of the Memorial Day weekend schedule. Memorial Day interfered this year with the title matches falling on May 23 weekend.

Pahrump Valley High School has been going through some changes lately. The Nye County School District announced in October of last year that all Nye County schools will start on Aug. 11 and get out on May 22. These changes according to the district allow the students to complete the semester prior to Christmas. They said research said it was better for the kids to have the semester all finished before Christmas break. (see PVT Oct. 9, 2013)
Pahrump has team of shooters from the Nye County 4-H Club that will be going to the National 4-H Shooting Sports Invitational at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Nebraska on June 24-29.
The Pahrump Youth Softball Association hosted a three-day softball camp put on by U.S. Fast Pitch Camps from Tuesday to Thursday at Ian Deutch park. Holly Wright, coordinator of the camp for PYSA, said a camp like this was necessary in Pahrump.
Tonopah Chuckers High Desert Showdown — June 21 and 22 at the Joe Friel Complex. The first tournament will be a sanctioned tournament. Registration will close at 9:30 a.m. and the tournament will start at 10 a.m. The cost is $12 and the tournament is on Sunday, which will be a high-low doubles tournament.
Jerry Adcox retires as the Beatty track coach after 44 years of coaching at various schools in New Mexico, Oregon and Nevada. For the last 23 years, he has been the Beatty Hornets track coach on and off. In his last five years of coaching, his girls’ team has won the regional title five times and he has won one state title.
Special Olympics athletes are not like any other athletes and yet they are like all athletes. In the realm of Special Olympics, these special athletes strive just to be treated like everyone else. In their fight to be normal, they learn life lessons about competition and what it’s like to win and what it’s like to lose. They are all winners in that respect, and learn life lessons that come with hard work.
The Pahrump Valley Junior Golf program is back and is as strong as ever. Long considered to be the main source of young golfers in the valley, the program under Frank Cox, former Willow Creek Golf Pro, has been a driving force in the valley to get kids interested in golf.
