With most of last season’s roster returning and a full 18-game schedule on the horizon, the Trojans used last week’s summer camp to sharpen their skills and continue building a stronger program.
The Trojan boys track team came up short last year and failed to take the region title as expected. The team was supposed to contend for the state title last year but the injury to top sprinter Kennan Harris blew everything out of the water.
This year the Lady Trojans should do well against Faith Lutheran. How well is still to be determined. Trojans Coach Ed Kirkwood believes the girls still have some strong talent despite losing a lot of seniors last year.
Who says one can’t buy things for a quarter anymore? It’s time for the 20th annual Pahrump Valley Youth Golf Founders Club Quarter Auction in conjunction with the Pahrump Valley Times at the Nugget Convention Center. The auction will be tonight and doors will open at 6 p.m. and the auction starts at 7 p.m.
A new coach was introduced at the junior varsity level after last year’s coach, Ethan Wald, didn’t return for a second year.
Confidence, depth and precision is hard to find in any organization, but this year these traits seem to flow freely in the Pahrump Valley Trojans baseball team.
Saturday was a beautiful day for the Harvey Gonzalez Cancer Walk at Lake View Executive Golf Course held for Harvey Gonzalez’s family. Gonzalez had stage IV cancer and was well known as a volleyball coach for Nye County School Distinct, a juvenile probation officer for Nye County, Esmeralda county and Beatty and he worked at the Tonopah jail as a Nye County deputy for 10 years.
Donkey basketball fever came to the valley on Friday evening as people filled the Pahrump Valley High School gym to capacity for the second annual game.
Today Nye County mourns the passing of a great man. It seems God always takes the good ones. We lose a man who was a strong family man who loved his wife and his three kids and a man dedicated to serving his community.
The Trojans softball team is ready to take the field for the 2014 season and will be in Needles, Calif. next week for a two-day tournament.
It’s hard to look at a freshman or sophomore athlete and say “this one is going to help us get to the playoffs.”
