The Trojans baseball team lost its first league game against the Faith Lutheran Crusaders on Thursday, dropping to 10-7 overall and 3-1 in league play.
It was a picture-perfect day to be at Mountain Falls Golf Course in Pahrump last Friday as the Trojans Golf team hosted the annual Pahrump Invitational, which had sixteen teams and 108 individual golfers in all.
Trojans track traveled last week to two different meets. Earlier on Wednesday they went up against the Cheyenne Desert Shields and prevailed on both sides of the house.
When the high school only has 100 kids in the entire school, it’s hard to put together an experienced team. Hornets Coach Leo Verzilli really only has two players from last year’s roster and it shows, but Verzilli is not worried. He always stresses the fact that the kids want to play and that they are getting better each game.
The Lady Trojans softball pitching is on fire. In the last two outings, pitcher Whitney Roderick had nine strikeouts against Tech and 8 more against Western. Roderick could easily have had more strikeouts, but Trojans Coach Eli Armendariz took her out to give backup pitcher, Amanda Pryor, three innings.
The Trojans hung on for dear life in the top of the seventh, as the Western Warriors put men on base, but came up short by 1 run to lose 3-2.
The Lady Trojans are slowly emerging as a Sunset League powerhouse despite the one league loss to Cheyenne. Last Friday the girls defeated a sound Tech Roadrunner team 6-0. Tech was the number three team from the Sunrise League, who was 9-2 overall and 3-1 in League.
