New MMA fight club to open

For those who want to inflict some pain on another person and fight on a regular basis, the Mix It Up Academy, operated and owned by Robert Wilson, will be opening up a Pahrump mixed martial arts fight club. People looking to join will need to try out at the gym on 2400 E. Basin on Feb. 15 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

New season starts for speedway

Racing at the Pahrump Valley Speedway is underway and the season opened without a hitch on Feb.1. The racing season is ahead of the weather this year for spring seems to be some time off and the fans got a bitter taste of some chilly weather last Saturday afternoon on opening day.

Trojans win in final seconds

The Division 1-A girls basketball Sunset League got a bit more interesting Wednesday night. In their first meeting the Lady Trojans basketball team could not stop the Cheyenne Desert Shields. The Shields outscored the Trojans 15-2 in the second quarter and 16-5 in the third for a 41-24 beating. On Wednesday the Trojans had that beating in their minds as they stepped up their defense and defeated the Shields 27-26 in the last seconds of the game.

The Winter Olympics are set to start in Sochi, but who is going to watch? The Olympics will be aired on NBC and the opening ceremonies will start on Feb. 7 with events starting on Feb. 8.

The Pahrump Valley Junior Trojans wrestlers were on the road last weekend and traveled to Richfield, Utah for the Beehive Brawl Nationals. The team sent 18 wrestlers to the competition and the tournament had around 1,300 wrestlers from all over the United States.
