Pahrump Valley’s summer basketball season is underway, but Coach Toby Henry isn’t measuring success by wins and losses. The team’s multi-sport athletes are using June’s competition to gain experience.

With most of last season’s roster returning and a full 18-game schedule on the horizon, the Trojans used last week’s summer camp to sharpen their skills and continue building a stronger program.
The Trojans golf team has qualified for the state tournament as a team. The team played at the Southern Nevada Division I-A regional tournament held at Palm Valley and Siena in Las Vegas against two other teams that qualified for the regional tournament, Faith Lutheran and Boulder City.
The Hornets track team finished its last meet of the season at the Boulder City Small School Invite,.Beatty finished 15 out 15 schools for the boys and 13 out 15 for the girls.
The Trojans finished the season as the fourth place seed and started the playoffs against Sunrise League’s first place seed, Boulder City (21-9 overall, 14-0 Sunrise League) on Tuesday. Pahrump Valley lost to the Eagles, 10-0.
It was a difficult end to a hard-fought season. The girls came up short in their quest to make the playoffs. The Trojans had to win their last three games of the season and it came down to the last game against Faith Lutheran ( 26-8 overall, 12-2 Sunset League) and they lost 6-0.
The Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association has a new executive director, Bart Thompson and his first day will be July 1. He will be the fourth director in the history of the NIAA.
The Pahrump Valley High School track team was at the Boulder City High School Small Schools Invite on Friday and the boys finished in sixth place out of 15 schools (49 points). The girls also finished in sixth place out 15 schools (39).
The girls softball team has beaten up on their opponents the last two games and have all their efforts turned to beating Faith Lutheran on Thursday (the game was past deadline).
Things didn’t go well for the Trojans baseball team as they played their last home game of the season against Mojave and lost 10-7.
The Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run will be on May 16 at 8 a.m. and is a fundraiser for Special Olympics Nevada. The torch is carried from Hoover Dam and runs up to Reno. Last year was the first time the run came to Pahrump.
Junior Tommy Gascoigne Jr., a student athlete at Pahrump Valley High School, will have a busy summer this year and will be attending the West Point Summer Leaders seminar in June, followed by the U. S. Naval Academy Summer Seminar.
