The ups and downs of sports were fully on display Friday and Saturday for the Pahrump Valley High School wrestling team at the Chaparral Invitational in Las Vegas.

Kids aged 4 to 12 are invited to participate in ski and snowboard competitions Saturday at Lee Canyon.

There was no pregame fireworks display, no marching bands and nobody sticking a microphone in Tom Duryea’s mouth so he could shout, “I’m going to Disneyland!”

Sophomore forward Kate Daffer scored 15 points and junior forward Kylie Stritenberger added 9 Wednesday night to lead the Pahrump Valley High School girls basketball team to a 46-33 victory over Western in Las Vegas.

Skiers and snowboarders of all ages and ability levels participated in Lee Canyon’s fourth annual Ruby Cup fundraiser race benefiting Nevada Donor Network on Jan. 12 at Lee Canyon.

After sitting out the first six weeks of wrestling season, Pahrump Valley High School junior 120-pounder Donnie Miller was eager to get back on the mat.

Last Thursday night, the Pahrump Valley High School girls basketball team headed into Las Vegas to play Del Sol and came back with a 43-13 victory.

At the close of Monday night’s games, the Del Sol, Boulder City and Democracy Prep boys basketball teams combined sported a 34-14 record. So it should not have come as a surprise that Pahrump Valley would struggle during a three-game stretch against them.

Coach Dan Clift knows his Pahrump Valley High School boys basketball team doesn’t have much margin for error against the better teams on the schedule. Take away one of the starters — especially one who stands 6 feet, 4 inches — and the Trojans are in some trouble.

Many Americans first became aware of curling during the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea, when the United States won its first gold medal in the sport. The event certainly had an impact on the Las Vegas Curling Club.
