For the first time in years, the Hornets dealt the Muckers a loss in volleyball. For some time, the Muckers have dominated the series, but Beatty finally put an end to that last Friday in Tonopah by winning in five, 25-22, 22-25, 25-16, 19-25 and 15-5.
The 20-something crowd would say the glory years of life are in your 20s. The five Pahrump seniors who won medals at the recent senior games would argue differently.
Summer is gone but that doesn’t mean summer sports are. During the fall in Southern Nevada, now that the heat of the summer has subsided seniors are getting in shape for the Nevada Senior Games.
In the first half of the season, Spring Valley’s volleyball team rolled over Pahrump Valley in three games 25-17, 25-18 and 25-19. The Trojans (10-13 overall, 4-5 Sunset League) went down fighting last Tuesday.
The last time Clark and Pahrump met was on September 12 and Clark won that game 2-1. In that game, the Lady Trojans underestimated Clark. The Chargers (8-5 overall, 6-4 Sunset League) had hoped to repeat that victory on Tuesday on the Trojans (9-4, 6-3) home turf, but they were denied 1-0.
The Hornets are having a decent season under new coach James Robertson. Beatty (4-2 overall, 2-2 Division IV Southern) is coming off a big win against the Knights (4-2, 2-2) last week, beating them 46-14.
Rosemary Clarke Middle School eighth grade English teacher Susan Zink, went to the Nevada Senior Games last week and came away with a gold medal.
Last Friday night the game was all about defense as the Trojans (3-4 overall, 2-3 Sunset League) lost to the Grizzlies (5-2, 4-1) in a low scoring conference battle 13-7. With the victory, Spring Valley now sits alone at the top in the Sunset League. Pahrump is in seventh place just behind Mojave.
