Just months after launching, Pahrump Valley Junior Athletics is drawing consistent turnout from local youth athletes and laying the groundwork for stronger and more confident competitors without the need to leave town.

Since the times of the gladiators people have found entertainment in locking men in a cage and watching them fight to the death. Tuff-N-Uff and the UFC have found a classier way of exploiting this form of entertainment with an octagon and subtracting the “to the death” part. Fighters like Pahrump’s Brandon Schneider willingly lock themselves inside a cage with other talented and powerful fighters to see which of them is smarter on the ground and can take the biggest beating and still walk out of the ring.
There are only three seniors on the Lady Trojans volleyball team this year and outside hitter Payton Hart, No. 10 is one of them. Hart finds herself in a leadership role this year which she gladly shares with two other seniors, Bryana Soliwoda and Mikayla Davis, two more seniors than last year. Last year the team finished in second place to Faith Lutheran in the Sunset League with only one senior. The team was largely made up of sophomores and juniors, but still managed to get into the playoffs.
The Lady Trojans were in Las Vegas for the Las Vegas Invitational volleyball tournament over the weekend at Las Vegas High School. They may not have walked out of the gym with a first place trophy, but in the eyes of Trojans Coach Jill Harris the team was all winners.
Chaparral Cowboys Coach Bill Froman has been with the team for the past three years. He says his team is ready for Friday’s game against the Trojans.
The Trojans offense known as the Jet Offense or the Double Wing Jet has an Auburn, Wash. connection. Trojans Coach Joe Clayton is from Washington. He said it comes from Auburn Coach Gordon Elliott from Auburn High School.
Trojans boys soccer coach Don Boulden took to the field last Friday with a new squad. The team played Arbor View, a Division I team in a scrimmage and came out with a 3-3 tie.
Junior Brittany Klenzcar is one of the defensive leaders for the Lady Trojans soccer team this year, but she has four more weeks before she can play again. She injured her knee experimenting with some softball during the spring and may have injured the meniscus in her knee. She had surgery four weeks ago and has several weeks before she can join the team. Klenzcar hopes to join the team for the start of conference play on Sept 17.
The Trojans girls soccer team ramped up its training in a scrimmage with last year’s Division I state champion Arbor View Aggies last Friday morning. The girls hung in there with the champs and came out 3-2 with Arbor View on top.
The old Tonopah Middle School gym was unusable according to middle school football coach Dan Eason.
Just three miles past Windrock Country Store on Bell Vista Road lies the Bureau of Land Management shooting range and thousands of people use the area for free target practice.
